5.4 Step 4: Write a “pitch”

Write out a "Pitch" or exactly how you would present your Message for the following circumstances: You need a:

15 second version.

So you can quickly introduce yourself and your cause. (Imagine if you were cold-calling someone, or presenting it in an elevator to someone you didn't know. How would you talk about what you are up to?)

1 to 2 minute version.

So you can elaborate if the person or people you are talking to give you more time or ask you to elaborate.

5 to 15 minute version.

So you can go into real depth about your cause if given the opportunity to have a prolonged conversation or give a speech.

Remember, 15 seconds might seem like no time at all to present, but people will make their first judgment about you in that time. Also, if you never have, try talking for two minutes straight about anything at all, and you might realize that 15 seconds isn't so short because that 1 to 2 minutes can feel like an eternity–not to mention trying to fill a full on 15 minute speech.
